Chicago, the cult musical, is coming to the Casino de Paris in 2025

In 2025 , the Casino de Paris , an iconic venue for live entertainment, will host the French version of Chicago, the musical . After conquering Broadway , London and the world, this masterpiece returns to the stage in a faithful and modern adaptation. The world of Chicago in Paris mixes jazz, crimes of passion and social satire, carried by iconic characters like Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly . A must-see event for musical comedy lovers in Paris !

A CURRENT STORY... WHICH HAS ITS ROOTS IN THE 1920S

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, you are about to witness a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, manipulation, adultery and betrayal, all those things that are so dear to our hearts…”

The opening lines of CHICAGO are unambiguous, both provocative and humorous, setting the stage for a plot that we quickly realize could make headlines today. This is undoubtedly one of the strengths of this show, which, created in the 1970s, nonetheless finds its roots in real events that took place in 1920s Chicago.

The Story of the Musical Chicago

The plot of Maurine Dallas Watkins's work brings together Roxie Hart, a budding artist who murdered her lover, and her idol, the artist Velma Kelly, herself a double murderer, in prison. To escape the death penalty, they enlist the services of a skilled lawyer, star of the Chicago Bar, Billy Flynn, with the interested complicity of the head warden Mama Morton. In a game of deception from which they emerge acquitted, only Roxie Hart's cuckolded husband will not benefit, while the two women, now accomplices, will find their way onto the stage, in an explosive duet.

Casino de Paris

There are predestined places in Paris. The Casino de Paris is located in one of these magical places.

As early as 1730, where meadows and trees were visible, a site was created for the Duke of Richelieu's distractions. The "Folie Richelieu", which was then more democratically attended, became a place of entertainment until 1811. It is replaced by the Tivoli, a very large amusement park run by a pyrotechnician named Ruggieri, still today the great name for Paris' fireworks.

It was during the dark period of the 1914-1918 war that the Casino de Paris adopted the formula that made it a legend in the Parisian Music Hall.

In 1851, the Trinity Church was built on the site of the Tivoli. Is this the end of the place's vocation of pleasure and joy? No, because Baron Haussmann, the all-powerful developer of Paris, had it dismantled and rebuilt a little lower down!
